Seriously, does that joke ever get old?
I am so proud of myself! I paid attention and did it!
Here's how my numbers stacked up:
Coffee with flavored creamer - 15 grams
Oatmeal with 1/4 cup blueberries and 1/4 strawberries - 5.5 grams
String cheese - 0 grams
Ham Sandwich with provolone cheese on whole grain with mustard - 6 grams
1/2 cup yogurt - 18 grams
Pork stir fry with brown rice - 8 grams
2 cups 1% milk - 24 grams
PB Sandwich with Smart Balance PB - 4 grams
GRAND TOTAL - 72.5 grams
The only thing that I kind of restricted myself on was the yogurt. Since I buy the bigger tubs of yogurt instead of the single serving cups it was a little easier for me to just take 1/2 cup instead of a whole cup. I don't know that I could have only eaten half of a single serving cup though. The only reason I only allowed myself 1/2 cup is because I wasn't sure how many grams of sugar I normally consume in a day and I didn't want to spend them all in one place! :)
Thanks Anne and Samantha for lighting a little fire under my behind and thanks to Leslie for reminding me that this may just be what my body needs to really get itself in order!
I think I probably am under 100 grams of sugar most days. I am thankful that I don't drink a lot of soft drinks. I am sure if I did it would have been impossible to keep it under 100!
Some of you may drink a lot of pop (my southern friends are going "what's pop?") Might I suggest trying a little bit of green or white tea? I know you are probably rolling your eyes but just hear me out. There are many potential health benefits to drinking green tea. I drink a cup in the afternoon on most days and find that my mood lightens considerably after that one cup. And there is just something about warming up a nice cup of tea that is so relaxing. If you are drinking pop for the caffeine, Dr. Oz said on a fairly recent episode of Oprah that green tea has about a third of the caffeine of a cup of coffee, yet packs a bigger punch!
As far as tracking stuff goes, I have decided that I am going to take a whole week and just focus on my sugar. I think if I narrow in my focus on one nutritional factor at a time I can slowly allow myself to get the numbers under control without feeling overwhelmed. If I take a week to just look at sugar, then by the end of the week I should have a fairly good idea of how much sugar is in the things I eat on a regular basis. Then I'll move along to carbs, protein, fiber, and calories, all one at a time.
*abrupt change in topics*
Well, I just realized that I have about 20 minutes to get Ori to the dentist so I need to wrap this up.
I am running a 5K tomorrow with Leslie. I am hoping to push myself the entire time. My goal is to feel physically spent by the time I reach the finish line. I look forward to updating you all on how it went after my weigh in on Monday.
Challenge:
Scissor it!
I stole this from the my favorite Sparkpeople.com workout video
Pretend you have a jump rope in hand and for thirty seconds do some scissor jumps. Every time you jump alternate your left and right foot forward and back.
Go!
*Weekend Challenge*
Continue looking at your labels for sugar information. Those of you who shoot me an email with one shocking discovery as far as sugar goes will get a bonus entry in the drawing!
Thanks to Leigh Ann for posting a link to my blog on her site! She has already received two extra entries in the drawing thanks to friends of hers visiting this blog! Gracias Friend!

I've not been keeping up with sugar intake, but calories, and it stiiiiinnnks! But, I must, because I must eat much more than I thought I did. The interesting thing I'm finding, (which I discover every time I pay attention) is that it takes much less to satisfy my hunger than I think...or want.
I wasn't going to give a challenge, I really see you as the motivator here, but I will anyway. My challenge is for folks to wait until their body is hungry to eat (not their head), eat slowly and deliberately so you can do the next part, stop when your body is satisfied. This is the only thing I've ever been able to do to keep the weight off and keep it off. When I pay attention, it stays gone. When I don't, some of it comes back as it has the last few months. Hopefully, I can keep it under control.
I picked up some Lipton Green Tea last night at the grocery store and am drinking one right now! My downfall is not drinking enough water. I don't drink a lot of pop, but coffee nips me in the butt every morning. And there's something about that darn Starbucks place that makes my car steer towards it at least once a week.
A girl here at work brought in her "Kitchen Assistant" and we have been making all fruit smoothies at lunch and getting a side salad to go with it. I could not believe how full it made me! I feel like every time I get on a good roll, I tumble onto my behind the next week. I'm still only 5 pounds down from when you started your blog :( I feel a twinge of disappointment.
Good News, if Daryll gets this new promotion at work, I get to be a stay at home mommy!!!!
FINE. If you can do it, then I can do it. I know I consume WAY more than 100 grams of sugar daily. Paying attention to it will more than likely make me really think before biting into something. Sigh. I guess that's a good thing. *wink*
Consider yourself inspiring. Coriann never comments on my blog but felt inspired by your blog and just had to say something! That's cuz, well, you ROCK! And apparently much cooler than I am! LOL.
LaVonda - Thanks for the challenge idea. I will add it to my list and look forward to posting it in the near future.
Cheri - I pray that God has a new job title for you in the very near future!! You will love it!
The Kitchen Assistant sounds really neat!
Leigh - I need to update my post. I don't think natural sugars from fruits or veggies should count. I think it is only sugar additives we should be focused on! Don't worry about that banana babe!
Sorry you're friends think I'm cooler...TOTALLY KIDDING!
Oh how I wish I could do the tea thing you suggested. I am a coke (cola) addict I love the taste and my body needs the caffeine. I just cant stand the taste of Tea, I have tried many kinds but they all make me want to puke! Diet coke would be a great thing too but the taste of artificial sugar turns my stomach. Any suggestions? I know that I will never lose an ounce if I dont find an alternative to the soda aka pop(been outta MI for a bit).
Janet - This is a huge problem for a lot of people! Give me a few days to do some research. I'll do a blog on this subject early next week. In the meantime, hang in there!
Make yourself drink water every time you crave soda pop. After a couple weeks, soda pop won't even taste good anymore. It's a fact!
I have tried to only drink water befor but without the caffeine I get horrible headaches....
Janet, I got off drinking Coke by finally finding other things to make me energized. I found that Crystal Lite Energy packets make me feel about the same, but with less caffeine intake. And as I drank more, the less I felt the headache's come on...........it gradually got less and less before I realized it, I was drinking straight water! I hope this helps!
Michelle my sugar intake totally surprised me, I thought I was being good, but not so much, I consumed 113 grams of sugar yesterday, but I would have been ok, if I could have turned down the homemade ice cream at Ben's Grandparents anniversary party. I did turn down the cake though. Anyway, did you know that 1 cup of 2% Milk has 12 GRAMS OF SUGAR! WoW I never even imagined. By the way, how do I put a link to your site on my blog? I haven't a clue how to do it. I also wanted everyone to know they are more than welcome to read my blogs if they are interested. Mommyxsthree. (Sorry Michelle I think I just gave myself a plug! LOL) Keep up the good work Michelle!

So, I haven't been taking part in your challege or anything, but I do read your blog everyday and you got to me. I decided to count my sugars for the day to see where I was and it was actually pretty surprising. I ended up with 106, but I was watching what I was eating all day. I think a normal day is probably ALOT higher. It was interesting to see though, I may keep the counting going.
